EXTINCTION OF VEHICLES

CAR FIRE BLANKET

The effectiveness of fire blankets lies in their ability to prevent the entry of oxygen and suffocate the fire within minutes, without wasting resources like water and without damaging the environment as with fire extinguisher powder.

FIRE BLANKET FOR GASOLINE, DIESEL, AND ELECTRIC CARS

Features:

The car fire blanket is made of fiberglass fabric with a special coating for high temperatures on both sides.

With a surface area of 6x9 m (54 m2) and weighing only 28 kg, this blanket can cover most cars in case of fire, including SUVs and off-road vehicles. For proper placement and for safety reasons, it is recommended that at least 2 people intervene in the event of a fire.

It features 4 handles on the edges to facilitate its placement, with 2 dark-colored handles on the right side and 2 light-colored handles on the left side. Additionally, it is folded in a "Z" format, allowing for quick deployment in emergency situations.

The car fire blanket is delivered in a waterproof textile bag to facilitate transportation and storage.

Advantages:

To extinguish the flames of a car, using a fire blanket has multiple advantages compared to other fire suppression systems such as powder extinguishers or water hoses:

TEST OF THE CAR BLANKET: ELECTRIC BATTERY

The aim of this test is to validate the resistance of a fire blanket designed to control fires in electric cars, motorbikes and scooters, powered by lithium batteries. The battery used in this test is a 41 Kwh, 125 Amp battery, similar to those used in electric cars.

The battery fire blanket has been designed to resist fire and the impact of materials projected from exploding cells. A small size blanket is used in this test because the blanket is not intended to extinguish the battery fire but to test the resistance of the battery.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

01

Place the blanket in front of the car at a distance that allows users to act safely. Unroll the blanket so that it remains centered.

02

Grab the blanket by the handles at the ends and slide it over the car until it covers it completely. Always from the front of the vehicle towards the back.

03

With your feet, tuck the excess of the blanket underneath the vehicle until it is completely 'sealed.' It is important that air cannot enter through the lower part of the vehicle.

04

Move away from the vehicle to a safe distance. Tires, windows, and other components may cause small explosions. Wait approximately 120 minutes until the fire is extinguished.

05

Remove the blanket carefully from the back of the vehicle towards the front. Caution: The fire may reignite.

ATTENTION

To ensure maximum safety, Texfire recommends not using the car fire blankets more than once and replacing them with a new blanket after each use.

Do you want to know the differences between a single-use car fire blanket and a multi-purpose blanket?

CAR BLANKET TEST: PETROL OR DIESEL ENGINE

Texfire has conducted different tests to develop a car fire blanket that not only effectively extinguishes flames but also provides a good balance between mechanical strength and ease of handling.

Thanks to this, the selected fire-resistant fabric used for the blanket's construction is capable of withstanding impacts from glass, stones, and corrosive liquids, as well as deflagrations caused by explosions that occur during a fire.

DIFFERENCES IN THE USE OF THE BLANKET BETWEEN COMBUSTION AND ELECTRIC VEHICLES

It extinguishes fires in combustion engine vehicles and allows for control in hybrid and electric vehicles.

GASOLINE AND DIESEL VEHICLES:

The Texfire fire blanket is a fire-resistant blanket developed to extinguish fires in gasoline or diesel vehicles. In this type of cars, the fire usually occurs due to overheating of some electrical component or engine failure. In any case, the use of the blanket prevents the entry of oxygen, causing the fire to suffocate and the flames to go out.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES:

The batteries of electric vehicles generate energy through chemical reactions that, if the battery is damaged or faulty, can lead to what is known as Thermal Runaway. This phenomenon causes an uncontrolled increase in temperature that often results in battery fire.

In some cases, depending on the materials used in the battery, flammable gases may be released, which further fuel the flames. In such cases, the use of the blanket does not have the "smothering" effect, and therefore, other elements such as thermal lances may be necessary to help extinguish the fire. Nevertheless, even in cases where the battery cannot be "smothered," the use of fire blankets helps contain the flames and greatly reduces the spread of toxic fumes, facilitating the intervention of emergency services and preventing the fire from spreading.
