ELECTRIC SCOOTER EXTINGUISHER

FIRE BLANKET FOR ELECTRIC SCOOTERS WITH LITHIUM BATTERIES

The effectiveness of fire blankets for electric scooter batteries lies in their ability to contain fire and explosions, preventing the fire from spreading and largely retaining the toxic particles that are released into the air in the form of smoke.

FIRE BLANKET DESIGNED TO CONTAIN FIRE FROM ELECTRIC SCOOTERS WITH LITHIUM BATTERIES

Features:

The fire-extinguishing blanket for electric scooters is designed to contain flames and deflagrations of lithium batteries in case of fire, as well as a large part of the smoke and highly toxic particles they contain.

With a surface area of 4x4 m (16 m²) and weighing only 7.5 kg, the blanket can cover all types of scooters, whether standing or lying down. The weight and dimensions of the blanket are designed so that one person can handle and cover a scooter in case of fire, although for safety, Texfire always recommends the intervention of at least two people.

The fire blanket for electric scooters includes a waterproof duffle bag for storage and easy transportation. The blanket has four grips on the corners to facilitate its placement. Additionally, its "Z" folding design allows for rapid deployment in emergency situations.

Advantages:

Using the fire-extinguishing blanket has multiple advantages over other fire-fighting systems such as powder extinguishers or water hoses:

ELECTRIC SCOOTER FIRE BLANKET TEST

Texfire regularly conducts various tests to evaluate the blankets against different types of lithium batteries. This video shows one of the tests conducted with electric scooters. The results were satisfactory as the blanket contained the explosions of the battery cells and contained the flames throughout the entire test.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

01

Remove the blanket from its carrying bag and place it on the ground in front of the electric scooter. Unroll the two rolls in opposite directions.

02

With the help of two people, grasp the handles with tension and slide the blanket over the scooter until it is covered. Take precautions to protect yourself from the flames, especially your hands and face.

NOTE: Do not throw the blanket over the electric scooter, as it might not deploy correctly.

03

Adjust the blanket under the vehicle with your feet to ensure a complete seal. Prevent air from entering underneath.

04

Leave the blanket over the scooter during the fire and move to a safe distance. The battery may produce small explosions. Do not remove the blanket and wait for emergency services to arrive.

05

Only the Fire Department should determine when it is safe to remove the blanket. If the fire reignites, cover the vehicle with the blanket again. Once the blanket has cooled down, dispose of it.

ATTENTION

The Texfire fire blanket can be used several times as long as it has not been seriously damaged in any of its uses. The customer is responsible for checking that the blanket is in perfect condition and, if necessary, also for decontaminating it after each use, as well as for folding and storing it correctly.

ELECTRIC BATTERY TEST

The aim of this test is to validate the resistance of a fire blanket designed to control fires in electric cars, motorcycles, and scooters powered by lithium batteries. The battery used in this test is 41 Kwh and 125 Amperes, similar to those used in electric cars.

The fire blanket for batteries has been designed to withstand fire and the impacts of materials projected due to cell explosions. In this test, a small-format blanket is used because the intention is not to extinguish the battery fire but to test its resistance.

PREVENTION AND SOLUTIONS FOR THE RISKS OF LITHIUM BATTERIES IN ELECTRIC VEHICLES

The batteries of electric mobility systems, designed to generate energy through chemical reactions, are a fundamental component in sustainable mobility. However, when these batteries experience damage or defects, a phenomenon known as Thermal Runaway can occur, which can have serious consequences, including the risk of fire.

The Thermal Runaway process is characterized by an uncontrolled increase in temperature within the battery, leading to a chain reaction that can result in a fire. This situation is further exacerbated when the materials used in the battery's construction are prone to releasing flammable gases, which feed the flames and make extinguishing the fire more difficult.

In such circumstances, the use of fire blankets is a crucial measure to contain the flames and significantly reduce the spread of toxic smoke.

It is important to note that lithium batteries generate flammable gases that fuel the fire, meaning the blanket may not extinguish it. This is why firefighters use them as a control measure, to protect the environment and enhance their own safety during firefighting operations.

Fire blankets are an extinguishing element that perfectly complements other tools such as thermal lances, water pools, etc.

Ultimately, the inclusion of fire blankets as an integral part of safety protocols not only facilitates the intervention of emergency services but also significantly contributes to environmental protection and public safety.
