Flame retardant neck gaiter effective protection for forest firefighters

In the fight against forest fires, firefighting forces are exposed to extreme danger conditions and situations. The high risk of this working environment requires that work clothes are regularized on a very rigorous way by european and international regulations to protect them against the fire, smoke, exposures to high temperatures and any kind of climatic phenomenon. UNE EN 15614: 2007, is the standard applied to the clothing and/or uniform of forest firefighting forces and specifies the basic design of the body protective garments, through an overall, two pieces with sneaky areas or several internal garments that must be used together, taking into consideration the protection of the head, nape, facial protection, eyes and ears. Being the helmet an essential garment that must be accompanied with a hood or neck gaiter.

Forest firefighters’ protective clothes, in addition of being certified by regulation UNE EN 15614:2007, must be characterised by being light, flexible, to ease the movement during the interventions. On many occasions are the forest firefighters themselves the ones who extend their PPE. The protection of the neck and face is essential to a correct execution of their intervention. The Regulation itself specifies that any protection garment for the neck “must remain vertically when is placed upwards”. A highly recommended product for firefighting forces and rescue squads is Texfire’s flame retardant, transpirable and antistatic neck gaiter, designed under the regulation ISO 11612 Protective clothing against heat and flames”, that encompass all those regulations related with the protection against fire.
